Tanote Bay Koh Tao – Bay & Beach In Koh Tao, Thailand

by David & Intan

Tanote Bay Koh Tao (also known as Tanote Beach) is one of the nicest spots on the east side of Koh Tao island in Thailand.

Thereโ€™s something for everyone here. The views and snorkeling are some of the best, and the beach is never crowded.

This travel guide will explain how to get there, and everything you need to know before you go!

Tanote Bay Koh Tao: What To Expect

Tanote Beach is great for sunbathing, snorkeling, diving, and more.

If you need to get your adrenaline fix, thereโ€™s a big boulder in the middle of the bay thatโ€™s great for rock jumping. The height is about 30 feet (10 m).

When snorkeling around Ao Tanote, you can expect to see some good fish and corals, baby sharks, and maybe even manta rays.

If you need snorkel gear or life jackets, you can rent them at one of the restaurants for 50 baht (~$2 USD).

There are a bunch of resorts and restaurants here too if you fancy staying longer!

Entrance Fees

Thereโ€™s no entry fee for the beach.

How To Get To Ao Tanote Beach

Tanote Beach is located on the east side of Koh Tao island.

The road to the beach is well paved but very steep, so you may want to park up the hill.

Tanote is just a 15 minute drive from the main pier and tourist areas at Sairee Beach, and many places will rent you a scooter for 150 Baht ($5 USD) to explore the island all day.

Where We Stayed

We stayed at a hotel called Aukotan Place in south Koh Tao. The price was $23 USD for a big double room with cold A/C, hot shower, and good WiFi.

This hotel includes free buffet breakfast even though itโ€™s not mentioned on Booking.com. They also give a free daily transfer to and from the pier, and Sairee Beach, which was super handy, and they have scooter rentals for a good price.

The location of the hotel was perfect. Itโ€™s a 15 minute walk from Freedom Beach, Shark Bay, and John Suwan Viewpoint.

Prices may fluctuate from time to time, so just keep an eye out for a good deal.

I haven’t heard about Tanote Beach yet, but I think it’s one of the best places to visit when I will go back to Thailand. Thank you for sharing the place where you stayed as it’s quite challenging to book a hotel in Koh Tao island. Really a great help!
