Balian Beach, Bali is a popular surf spot to the west of Canggu and the more developed parts of Bali island in Indonesia.
Itβs a volcanic ash beach with black sand, and there are a bunch of restaurants and Balian Beach accommodation options starting to pop up as well.
This travel guide will explain how to get there, and everything you need to know before you go!Balian Beach Bali
Balian Beach is a great spot for sunsets and intermediate surfing. Most of the beach is soft black sand with a few patches of smooth volcanic rocks.
Visually, itβs like Pasut Beach except without the dirt biking, so itβs quieter even though it has more restaurants and hotels.
Compared to the touristy areas in south Bali, this beach is much quieter and less busy. The atmosphere is similar to the Amed coast, and thatβs a great thing!
Entrance Fee
FREE as of 2020.
Thereβs no entry fee for the beach.
Balian Beach Accommodation
There are a bunch of good options nowadays for Balian Beach accommodation, including villas, homestays, and resorts right by the beach.
If you want to be directly on the beach with ocean views, your best bet is the Pondok Pitaya Balian Hotel or Balian Surf Villas.
How To Get There
Balian Beach is located in west Bali, Indonesia.
Itβs a 1 hour drive from Canggu, or about 1.5 hours from Ubud.
The best way to get there is to rent a scooter or hire a private car and driver (both of these can be booked online).
From the parking area, youβre already right by the beach β no steep steps to walk down!

Bali Private Driver & Motorbike Rental
If you want to explore Bali in the comfort and safety of a private car with an English speaking driver, my top recommendation would be GetYourGuide.
Their price is 650k Rupiah ($45 USD) for a full day of driving and sightseeing in Bali (up to 10 hours) for 1-5 passengers. That's the total price for the whole car + driver + petrol! It's a great deal. They also offer affordable hotel transfers from the airport.
If you'd rather travel by motorbike, they have that too. Their scooter rentals start at 140k Rupiah (~$9) and include a helmet, rain coat, and free delivery in the south Bali area.
We've used GetYourGuide for lots of tours and activities around the world, and they're great! Highly recommended.

I appreciate you trying to share this gem with the world. How will it ever remain tho with articles like this promulgating to the rest of the world? Isn’t at least half the satisfaction finding it oneself? Just curious what your intentions are by writing this article, especially when praise it for being so quiet and secluded.
I wouldn’t worry about this beach ever getting too popular or crowded. It’s too far from town and everything else. Besides, there are lots of other nice black sand beaches in Bali like this one that I haven’t shared on here. They’re still secret. π
