Chalok Baan Kao Bay has one of the biggest and most peaceful beaches in Koh Tao island, great for chilling and watching the sunset.
This guide will explain how you can get there, and everything you need to know before you go!
What To Do At Chalok Baan Kao Bay
Chalok is a great place for relaxing and taking a dip, kayaking, and more.
It’s the second biggest beach in Koh Tao, but it’s quieter and less busy than Sairee Beach because of its location in the south.
The white sand is soft, and the water is shallow enough to make it a good beach for families with kids. There’s even a sandbar you can walk out on when the conditions are right!
Even though it’s a quiet beach, it has its fair share of restaurants, bars, and dive shops nearby, along with a pharmacy and 7-Eleven. Since it’s facing west, it makes a great sunset beach too!
FREE as of 2019.
There’s no entry fee for the beach.
How To Get There
Chalok is located on the south end of Koh Tao island.
It’s just a 10 minute drive from the main pier and tourist areas at Sairee Beach, and many places will rent you a scooter for 150 Baht ($5 USD) to explore the island all day.
Even better, our hotel in south Koh Tao was close enough to walk there in just 5 minutes!
EXTRA: Freedom Beach
They’re just around the corner, and you can get to them in a few minutes by walking on foot or taking a kayak.

Where We Stayed
We stayed at a hotel called Aukotan Place in south Koh Tao. The price was $23 USD for a big double room with cold A/C, hot shower, and good WiFi.
This hotel includes free buffet breakfast even though it’s not mentioned on Booking.com. They also give a free daily transfer to and from the pier, and Sairee Beach, which was super handy, and they have scooter rentals for a good price.
Prices may fluctuate from time to time, so just keep an eye out for a good deal.
