Ao Leuk is one of the nicest white sand beaches on Koh Tao island.
The color of the water here is a unique shade of light blue, and it’s so bright it almost looks like Listerine or something!
What To Do At Ao Leuk Bay
Ao Leuk is a great beach for soaking up sun, snorkeling, and kayaking.
It’s not the biggest beach on Koh Tao, but in my opinion it may be the nicest. It has perfect sand and turquoise water, but it’s not too remote or crowded.
There is a restaurant and a resort at the beach too if you want to stick around longer.
Snorkeling around the boulders on either side of the bay is pretty decent, and gives you a chance to see some colorful reef fish and baby sharks.
Kayaking To Shark Island
After you’re done exploring the main parts of the bay, paddle a kayak out to Shark Island to continue the adventure!
This island looks like just a big clump of rocks, but there’s more snorkeling to be done here, and it’s also a great spot to get some drone shots.
The distance to the island is less than a mile (only 1.3 km) if you start from Ao Leuk Beach.

FREE as of 2019. There’s no entry fee for Ao Leuk.
Look for the sign by the road that says free entrance to the beach.
How To Get To Ao Leuk Bay
Ao Leuk is located on the south east side of Koh Tao island.
The road to the beach is steep and rough at times, so you may want to park up the hill. Beach access is through the Aow Leuk Resort.
Look for the sign by the road that says Free Entrance To The Beach. Aow Leuk Grand Hill Resort (pic above). Take a left turn at the sign.
Ao Leuk is just a 10 minute drive from the main pier and tourist areas at Sairee Beach, and many places will rent you a scooter for 150 Baht ($5 USD) to explore the island all day.
Even better, our hotel in south Koh Tao was close enough to drive there in just 5 minutes!
Where We Stayed
We stayed at a hotel called Aukotan Place in south Koh Tao. The price was $23 USD for a big double room with cold A/C, hot shower, and good WiFi.
This hotel includes free buffet breakfast even though it’s not mentioned on Booking.com. They also give a free daily transfer to and from the pier, and Sairee Beach, which was super handy, and they have scooter rentals for a good price.
