Even though Nusa Penida isn’t near as big of an island as Bali (with 4 percent of Bali’s land mass), you can still expect to spend hours driving around if you want to see the best sights on each corner of the island.

Just like in Bali, you have two main transport options for exploring Nusa Penida island: motorbike rental, or car with driver.

You’ve seen it on Instagram, and now you must see it in real life.

Nusa Penida By Scooter

Scooters are easy to rent from your accommodation (or other places) in Penida, and you can expect to pay about 75k IDR (~$5 USD) per day with a full tank of gas.

Many of the roads in Nusa Penida are still very rough, so I don’t think motorbikes are a great idea here, although lots of people seem to do it with no issues.

The choice is yours, just watch out for potholes and give your horn a good beep before turning any corners!

Nusa Penida By Driver

I’ve always rented a car with driver in Nusa Penida because it’s safer and more comfortable than a scooter, and the prices are only a bit higher than what you’d pay in Bali for a full day driver.

All of the drivers on the island use vans capable of taking at least 4 passengers, and the price is per car for a full day of driving (not per passenger). The prices also include gas/petrol.

Where We Stayed

We stayed at Saren Villa on the north coast of Nusa Penida, and paid 240k Rupiah ($15 USD) for a private double room with cold A/C, hot shower, and good WiFi.

This is one of the cheapest options in Penida, and it's in a great location near the best restaurants! We were happy.

Prices may fluctuate from time to time, so just keep an eye out for a good deal.
